Challenges In The Classroom and Burnout

How do you know if you are experiencing teacher burnout as a result of challenges in the classroom? Ask yourself the following questions:
Identify Your Specific Challenges:
What are the main challenges in your classroom? Are you feeling overwhelmed by your workload? Are there challenging student behaviours in your classroom? Are there supports in place to help you? Do you have any support from the students’ parents?
Suggestions: Communicate your challenges. Discuss your challenges with your administration, classroom support teacher, or behavioural specialist. Explore all the supports available to you, and come up with a plan to manage the behaviours with the help of your administrative team. Keep a record of the behaviours, including the time of events and possible triggers. There may be underlying issues that are bringing about the behaviours. Keep the communication with parents open for transparency, but remain professional. Don’t let emotions overshadow your desire to share your observations and work with the parents to come up with a solution. Let your communication show parents that you want to help their child progress in school. Hopefully, you have parental support, but if you don’t, continue to work with your administration. I would also recommend sharing your experiences with trusted colleagues who can offer support and suggestions to help your situation. These are not opportunities to bad-mouth children, but to feel heard and supported. It is helpful to know that you are not alone in this. If you are in an environment where you do not have trusting relationships, you can seek help through your own research or by finding mentors. There are ways to get help, if you look for it!
